With coastal erosion reaching the critical levels in certain areas of Oman, a Coastal Zone Management (CZM) project was undertaken to assess the erosion issue and to recommend solutions. The project included a detailed survey the coastline, during which 83 permanent sites were established to study coastal geomorphology. We identified and mapped major erosional/depositional trends for the entire coastline of Oman. Directions for defining construction setbacks were given for each coastal compartment. A general formula for coping with beach changes in southern Oman centered on developing meaningful setbacks and mitigating sediment losses resulting from human activity.
