On behalf of NOAA, RPI conducted an evaluation of a chronic oil discharge site in Louisiana’s Garden Island Bay by compiling a comprehensive chemical characterization of pollutants, spatial distribution of pollutants, and predicted fate and transport in relationship to the habitat impacted and adjacent resources at risk. As part of this we conducted three-dimensional geostatistical modeling of sediments to allow quantitative evaluation of risk and cost. This enabled identification of probable source, and specification of cleanup endpoints and mitigation options.
