Saudi Arabia Oiled Shoreline Survey RPI acquired high-resolution multispectral and panchromatic imagery of the coastal zone of northeast Saudi Arabia from the newly-launched Quickbird platform. This imagery was used to develop high accuracy intertidal habitat maps as part of the project goals to map and analyze the fate of spilled oil from the 1991 Gulf War oil spill. | ![]() |

Louisiana Satellite Enhanced ESI RPI is participating in a MMS-CMI grant with researchers from Louisiana State University on a pilot project to attempt to extract detailed shoreline position and geomorphology information from high-resolution multispectral and panchromatic Ikonos satellite imagery. This work will hopefully enable the rapid and repeated mapping of the extraordinarily complex Louisiana coast. | ![]() |
Food Bank GIS As of December 31st 2003, the Food Bank GIS (FBGIS) system is up and running at Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia, SC. This system funded by a SC Rural Compassion Grant, allows Harvest Hope to locate and view information on its various member agencies, perform gap style analyses of agency service areas, and produce maps for presentations and agency inspections. Research Planning, designed the geodatabase structure (ArcView 8.3), populated the database, and provided training. Research Planning, will also participate in the first database update in mid February, after which Harvest Hope will be running the system on its own. Future grants are being sought to expand the food bank’s system capabilities. | ![]() |
Costa Rica Route Analysis RPI used archived Landsat 7 ETM+ multispectral imagery to rapidly develop land-use/land cover maps for central Costa Rica. These data were used in a route suitability analysis to determine optimal siting of a large power transmission corridor. | ![]() |
